Our computers are a machine and just like a car you have to tune it up sometimes.
Like cars, computers are also always changing. You might have Windows ME, XP, VISTA or WINDOWS 7. Each operating system is also different. You & a friend might both have XP but you could have a bigger Hard Drive that holds all your programs as well as music, pictures, etc... and they might have more Ram that makes it easier for more programs to run at the same time. Your Processor is how fast your computer can load all these things.
I recommend having at least a 150 gig hard drive and 1 gig of ram for an XP computer.
You will find that 2 gig's of ram is better but 1 gig will work.
Windows 7 needs more ram to run well .... between 4 to 6 gigs of ram at least.
You can get the Free version of Malwarebytes but
the paid version is
well worth the price.

The first step in keeping your computer running well is to do MAINTENCE by cleaning out your browser or cache a couple of times a week.
When you 1st open your browser ( in this case I am using IE ( Internet Explorer ) you will see something like this depending on what home page your using
At least twice a week you want to clean out your cache of junk that has accumulated while surfing the Internet, especially if you play games on Pogo or Facebook. On my browser below you can see that I have circled Tools in red. The word tools on your browser might be on the far right of your browser and that is Ok.
Click on Tools ... then click on Internet Options and a box like the one below should appear.
Look in the middle and see Browsing History. You want to delete all your browsing history as it will make your browser load slowly and not run as efficient as it should. Your not deleting any of your Favorites. After your browsing history has been cleaned out ... Click OK to close the panel.

Always remember, with any computer you only want ONE virus scanner in your system or you will have a HUGE conflict that will make you want to scream
Now you might think that all your temps and cookies have been deleted huh?
Don't be fooled by a machine.
Click on Start... Run and type in %temp% as shown below then click OK
Please remember that I am running Windows XP
For Windows 7 ...left click on start, then where it says search/programs/files...
type in %temp%
then hit the enter key on your keyboard to delete those temps
After clicking OK a new box opens and SURPRISE.... We have temps hiding in there that need to go too. Left click on Edit then Select All and hit the Delete key on your keyboard. It will ask you... are you sure? Yes your sure.
Who wants that junk filling up in your machine?
Be sure to empty the recycle bin on your desk top after deleting all these temps
The next step is to do a DISK Clean Up on your computer
DISK CLEAN UP ON WINDOWS XP and 7
Left click on Start... Programs... Accessories... System tools then disk cleanup. Select your C drive if it doesn't show it already.
After disk clean up scans your computer to see how much space on your hard drive it can clean up of junk that has accumulated there ... You will see a panel like the one below.
Make sure ALL boxes are checked then click YES

MSCONFIG is used to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load when you turn your computer on.
Disabling these programs will help your computer boot faster
and crash less.
Your NOT deleting anything from your computer.
Your only stopping it from running in the background Until your ready to use the program

I've been having people tell to me lately that they have been getting viruses from reputable web sites even with a good virus scanner that is up to date on their computer so ...
I did some research. You can get a virus from any web site that uses Macromedia for viewing if your using The OLD Macromedia that has security issues and is vulnerable to viruses and Trojans.
Macromedia Flash player is now Adobe flash player.
You need to get Adobe Flash or if you have it installed already ...UPDATE IT to protect you from getting the Same viruses again.
Many computers use old versions of Macromedia Flash Player (now Adobe Flash Player).
Outdated versions of the Macromedia Flash Player Web browser plugin contain security vulnerabilities not present in newer versions.
I suggest you go to this web site..... http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
and get the current version of Adobe Flash player & the current version of Adobe Shockwave player.
You will see them to the far right of the page and They are Free for windows and Macs.
You may also want to make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader if you plan on doing any taxes on line this year.
After you update adobe for your computer .... make sure they are Enabled in your ADD ONS in Internet Explorer or whatever browser you use so you don't get the virus again from a web site that uses Flash.
